You can start each day off in the negative, seeing only
disappointment, or you can focus on the whole situation, seeking out the
positive aspects of your life, and how fortunate or lucky, you actually are.
That’s just one of the beautiful messages Deanna Beech expresses through her relatable characters, and the realistic dialogue in this story.
The reader follows a young child through everyday life
events, while learning important and valuable coping mechanisms to negative
situations, lessons about humanity, being optimistic in difficult times, and
feeling good about being a good person, which can be difficult for young
children to understand. The realism of the situations, as well as the strong, dynamic
characters, compels the reader to reflect on their own life throughout the book.
The soft, beautiful brushstrokes of the illustrations, done
by talented artist, Steven Lester, definitely capture the essence of the main
character’s voice, as well as the overall mood and tone of the story.
I immediately wanted to share it with my husband and my six
year old son, because I felt the messages were so universal and important, for
people of all ages, in all emotional states, to hear.
A very well written story, with beautiful, poignant
messages, written to help children learn valuable coping mechanisms, but in my
opinion, also sends several strong, positive messages that every adult,
responsible for molding a young mind, should read.
Deanna Beech is a successful Clinical Psychologist, with
over 20 years of experience working with people of all ages, and has an
impressive military career as well. She
has also written and presented on topics such as Emotional wellness, Military
Psychology, and Ethics in International Aid.
She is also the author of the book titled, Dreamland, which was designed to help kids relax and sleep better.
